letter he music of Michael Elsner has a wide sweep. The musicians let invention guide their path as they build around a heavy rock/funk core and whatever captures their imagination at the moment. Michael Elsner opens with a heavy rhythm guitar riff with leads which have fluid tonality, keeping the flame glowing to the end. The form is looser on King It Down where Bryce Bell lets the opening chords tumble out of his B3, his restlessness met with the rock stance of Michael's guitar, reveling in one of the funkiest tracks on the album.

Chameleon lives up to the image it creates, and once again Michael's opening riffs testify to their penchant for delving into hard rock territory. Soon after there is a calm verse section before the explosive chorus. Satch is a driving heavy rock tune which is a personal highlight of mine. I always have to hit the repeat button after the track is finished.

Throughout Stained Voodoo, Michael Elsner proves he can do nothing short of everything while never breaking a sweat. Although this is his first instrumental cd, a thorough examination of the record will reveal that Michael has leapfrogged ahead of many of his contemporaries and even more established guitar virtuosi. This cd will appeal to those who are into instrumental rock music and those who are taking their first steps in this rich art form. A HIGHLY recommended CD.
