Review of "Squadrophenia"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
'm sure you remember the review I did othis project's debut---it wasn't very good but how things change from release to release. This newest effort is so much better than the debut, it's almost like night and day. The band to refresh your memory is Jeff Kollman, Barry Sparks and Shane Gaalaas; a dangerous trio that combines many genres and influences and so is the case of this 12-track CD that has a more heavier/Rock approach; almost like listening to one of Kollman's solo efforts to be honest. Cosmosquad still catches the mood for Blues and Jazz but the songwriting is so much more enjoyable this time around. The "Jam For Jason" song is included on this CD also; if you remember Lion Music's tribute "Warmth In the Wilderness" for Jason Becker. The song includes Kollman, Chris Poland and Vinnie Moore; a stellar combination of guitarists trading off.
The critics found the debut to be very enjoyable but I think in all actuality "Squadrophenia" will surpass even them as far as true musicmanship and technical variety. I'm a reborn fan of this band now.
