Review of "Spirals In Hyperspace"

By: Wayne Klinger
T is celebrating their 20th Anniversary of existence and ironically this is their twentieth album to date since the 80's when they formed with original member Ed Wynne. The sad thing about all this is? I never listened to them ever in my lifetime despite hearing about them constantly. Talk about missing out on some really original instrumental music!
Ozric Tentacles is totally genius. There's nothing out there on the market that represents what this band does musically. They mix New Age with Techno and Trance and slide that inbetween thumping bass, organic drums and some phenomenal guitarwork of Ed Wynne and all his guests that are on this album. Joining Ed are is pals from Eat Static (his other band), Steve Hillage and Merv Pepler (former drummer for Ozric) adding guitar material and four other members lending bass, flute, drums and keyboards. The music can be described as spacy, exotic and ahead of it's time. No comparison really...an amateurish one would be to imagine Utah Saints gone Fusion with Hawkwind, Liquid Tension Experiment and Gordian Knot. Just a great, great album....I have some catching up to do!
