New Age/Jazz
Solo Guitar And Vocals is a best of D.R. Auten, featuring electric and acoustic renditions of tracks from four of this San Diego guitarist's CDs: "Hold On To The Moon", "Acoustic Paintings", "Boogieman" and "Songs From The Heart". The tracks all feature Auten on guitar, half of them with Auten singing, and cover a variety of styles from jazz to blues to bluegrass to folk to new age. He uses a variety of guitars to get his sounds, such as a Fender Stratocaster, a Taylor 612C, and a custom Taylor Jumbo. The music industry has been ravinng about Auten for years. Jazz Times wrote, "Auten is recommended to those who like fingerpicking guitarists with bravura chops and a steady compositional sense." John D'Augostino, an L.A. Times music critic adds, "A guitarist, vocalist, songwriter-composer, performer and recording artist whose spark of originality is beginning to set some brush fires inthe music world." Guitar Player Magazine stated, "Sculpting a cool contour through Chet-style country pluck, Celtic balladry and ragtime, Auten crafts enviable acoustic tones imitating cats and frog sounds." Instrumental Guitar (Electric/New Age/Jazz), total running time, 53:16
