letter s solo guitar CDs go, there are many to chose from, and many styles as well. Michael Harris has offered his latest (fourth CD) with Sketches From The Thought Chamber. As a progressive metal listener, and a fusion lover, this CD is putting fourth ample amounts of both. He has show flashes of brilliance before on prior releases, yet here it has all come to fruition. As one listens to the CD, you never get the impression that this is just another fast playing noodlefest of NPM (notes per minute) music often associated with solo guitarists. What sets Harris apart is the involvement of his band mates, through careful song constructions, they are able to flourish, and showcase their individual talents along with Harris. This music is definetly ProgMetal & Fusion. Harris is an excellent musician that rates with the very best in this this genre. The many tonal guitar variations on both acoustic and electric add to the depth and character of the cd, his playing is never overbearing, always staying in the confines of the structure. The music is very technical, but in a way that doesn't counfound the listener, as each song is so well crafted, one will just flow along with the breaks and meter changes. This CD rates very high with the style of music I like and will definetly be a great addition to anyone who likes the following artists. Greg Howe, Steve Vai, Liquid Tension Experiment, Spastic Ink.
