letter fter a more than satisfying listen to the new Cosmosquad, I finally get to this treasure that I have been wanting on CD format since it's original release (1990 I think) on Leviathan Records. This is my 4th all-time best instrumental CD ever! The other 3 in order are Friedman's "Dragon Kiss", Becker's "Perpetual Burn" and Masi's "Vertical Invader".

Kollman is just one of those guitarists that are truly identifiable, musically and tonality-wise. The problem with that nowadays is you more than likely have to be in your 30's to know who these guitarists are since there's really none from today's music that stand out; even like Zakk Wylde..well known by the younger kids but he goes back to like 1987 when most of these kids were just being born or in their childhood years. The respect needs to be there as players like Kollman have set the tone for many guitarists of today despite it's a dying breed compared to the tons of releases back in the 80's and 90's.

"Schizoid" fuses many styles and Kollman isn't afraid to use other instruments (horns or sax) within this CD that can bounce from Metal to Rock to Jazz to Reggae as well as Fusion; which we hear alot of and he's one of the masters of it (Lydian stuff). The other great thing about this re-release is the extra liner notes explaining where these songs came from as far as ideas or possible tracks for commercials or shows. Just a great CD and I never ever get tired of it. If you're not familiar with Jeff, this CD is a must have starting point and will have you buying his other releases as well as Cosmosquad and possibly his other project, Edwin Dare.
