coustic fingerstylist JIM EARP delivers an appealing mixture of British folk (Jansch, Renbourn, Legg) and California freestyle (Hedges, de Grassi, Ackerman). Alex de Grassi's influence is evident in Earp's open-C-tuned tribute to his wife, while his second selection, in open A, emulates the joyous feel of an old-time Appalachian fiddle breakdown. Throw in driving rhythms, beautiful, crystalline tone, and deft hammer-on and pull-off technique, and you've got one fine player.
