utch guitar demon Richard Hallebeek strikes forward with an all instrumental release chock full of musical virtuosity and tasty jazz rock. Along for the ride is his trusty compo dries Lale Larson (keys) and Bas Cornelissen (drums). The late, great Shawn Lane makes a guest appearance, providing some of the CD's finest moments, sadly his last recorded efforts. Bret Garsed is also a featured artist contributing a smattering of solos to round out this exceptional release.
This CD is packed with some of the finest and widely diverse jazz rock compositions to be heard anywhere. Hallebeek is possibly the Netherlands finest export into the instrumental guitar genre. His jaw dropping technical abilities are exceptional. Having honed his skills at the Musicians Institute studying under such luminaries as Scott Henderson, Brett Garsed, and TJ Helmerich. A true visionary with a keen sense of the historical sounds and structure of the fusion masters, Hallebeek carves out his own stylistic voice while paying homage to his peers. He covers it all with the ease and fluidity of a man totally in control of his instrument and music. There is a real maturity to Richards playing that is showcased within the 9 groundbreaking tracks included on RHP.
The CD is chock full of "way cool" song entities that conjure up heady days where Chick Korea or Myles Davis would just floor you with their visionary offerings, Hallebeek does just the same.
Highlights include:
"Conga Park" - a complex offering that is full of awesome off the wall licks courtesy of Mr. Hallebeek and Shawn Lane. A nice atmospheric composition that strays just far enough off the main melody to add some nice contrast. Hallebeek likes to push the boundaries just far enough to create some chaos.
"Good Food" - a fusion lover's smorg that incorporates elements of prog and jazz. This number utilizes the talents of Bret Garsed to great effect allowing him to step out and steam roll a great solo. A nice jazzy melody with some great keyboard sequences that provide some nice counterpoint.
Liquid Note Records has released another superb offering that breathes new life into the jazz fusion world. Another revolutionary statement in what is fast becoming a catalogue of the best fusion available anywhere. You really owe it to your self to purchase this CD - an absolute must have for serious music lovers.
