Review of "Rhythm Of Time"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
like the story behind this CD since Jordan was pressed for time before going on the road with Dream Theater. There's mention of him secluding himself in a studio for 2 weeks straight with no outside contact other than family to get this album done in time. Yeah, slapped together but you wouldn't know any difference if I didn't mention it. I wasn't a huge fan of the the earlier stuff but did like some of the stuff he did on the Petrucci/Rudess CD despite I'm not an acoustic fan."Rhythm Of Time" is extraordinary to say the least and has alot of talent contributing as well like Satriani, Vinnie Moore (Rudess' first job as a keyboardist on "Time Odyssey"), Greg Howe, Steve Morse, Dave LaRue and Rod Morgenstein. A couple vocal tunes on here are aided by Kip Winger and Greg Howe.
The CD flat-out defies all borders with very intricate timings and arrangements on the ivories where Rudess is one of the masters at this craft. I still argue the point with Vitalij Kuprij, Mistheria and Jens Johansson but that will still be a long-time argument like guitarists, drummers and bassists. You can just tell the knowledge of these musicians as far as music theory, arranging and compositioning goes...just blows your mind trying to follow along. Fans of Dream Theater, Liquid Tension Experiment, Bob Katsionis, Vitalij Kuprij, Warmen and other keyboard-driven releases will appreciate this just as emphatically or even more.
