hen it comes to jazz guitar albums with a convincing groove, it doesn't get any better than the new Reunion of Souls album. Featuring guitarists, Sheryl Bailey and Chris Bergson, joined by the rhythm section of Ashley Truner (bass) and Sunny Jain (drums). Reunion of Souls finds Bailey and company steeping out with a fine batch of new original tunes filled out with covers of Charlie Parker's Segment and Rogers and Hart's There's a Small Hotel. The liner notes state that the album is a "reflection on swing, blues, friendship, infulences, and group improvisation" A grad of the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Bailey earned her sterling reputation working with a variety of maodern jazz players such as Paul Bollenbakc and Dennis Chambers. The CD liner notes also point out how strong the influence of Jim Hall was in the musical development of both Bailey and Bergson. A celebration of the positive powers of guitar jazz performance, Reunion of Souls is an upbeat, solid and swinging instrumental album made by four passionate jazz lovers.
