Review of "Reunion Of Souls"
|
By: Jim Santell
ith Sheryl Bailey coming from the left channel and Chris Bergson coming from the right, this duo guitar session allows for an enjoyable comparison of contrasting styles. Not that they're very different. Bailey and Bergson met four years ago at a Jim Hall master class. They share an appreciation for lyricism and rich tone quality. Bailey earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, while Bergson finished his education at Oberlin College. Communicating on a higher level, the two guitarists complement each other well. When one seings comfortably, the other tends to turn edgy and add some dissonance. Their continued role reversal leaves the listener on the edge of his seat, It's good, clean fun between two talented jazz artists. In several places, Bailey adds some welcome electric work from the workd of rock music. When soloing as well as creating in ensemble fashion, the band brings consideralbe substance to this reunion.
