Albums Worth A Listen
|
|
"Pyramids", another entrancing album from ambient guitarist and composer Pat Thomi. Beautifully recorded and beautifully played, "Pyramids" is multi-level listening transporting the listener away from their thoughts instantly, to a deep and meditative state. Lost in a trance of hypnotic ambient sounds and sensual indigenous rhythms, this project picks up where "Fairy Tales" leaves off, carrying us into another surreal dimension of space and time. On his fourth release, Pat Thomi delivers a completely improvised and spontaneous recording. Totally self- produced, engineered, and arranged, Pat says, "Pyramids" was for him, taking a big chance as an artist, and a gutsy departure from his earlier releases. A conceptual project, centering on the album's title, "Pyramids" was conceived as a 5 song "Quintology", with each composition around 9-10 minutes in length, and each telling it's own story. From the rolling fusionesque title track, to the ominous and seductive "Time", and finally, the ethereal "Ascension", each composition seems to contain the secrets to the mysteries of life, all enveloped in hypnotic grooves, with Pat's masterful guitars and sitars, beckoning us to come along on the journey. "Pyramids" succeeds where many ambient and new age records fall short: It masterfully presents the therapeutic and healing power of music and sound
