Review of "Progressive"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
his Finnish player has been around a long time and just has relocated to the U.S.. You may be familar with some of his other stints with bands like outburst from Finland, his acoustic band Travel Brothers or ths one, The Takala Project as well as another band called Indiana. He also played in the Olympcs when they were held at Salt Lake City and has toured with the likes of Satriani, The Doobie Brothers and Jackson Browne.
Despite the "Progressive" release is a bit dated, the 7 songs on here are pure adrenaline kickers. Alot of Jazz/Fusion, Metal, Rock, Funk to even some Contemporary stuff will find it's way to your ears. Every song on here is almost like in human form; different contours, moods and characteristics as well as textures and sole identity of each song. There's alot of good piano, bass and guitarwork throughout and sometimes I get some reminders of "Satch", Gilbert, Kollman and Saraceno. All these songs are lengthy for the most part..shortest is 3 1/2 minutes and everything else is 5-6-7+. Definately not "one-offs"! Some serious thought was put behind these tunes and the technical precision of them is phenomenal. I surely hope he updates his discography and puts out another instrumental album because these seven songs alone for me are just a teasingly good "snack".
