obbled by musical-masterminds Mike Fortin and Dave Penna, the instrumental "Patterns" smokes from beginning to end. Excellent musicianship and top-notch production make this an unusually strong debut CD for Static. The CD kicks off with the heavy guitar crunch of "Ghost Companion", with enough low-end throb and back beat bashing to scare even the mightiest of mortals. Static is quite capable of taking us from the deadly sub-sonic stomps of "Mesopotamia", to the greasy slick and tasty grooves of "Chicken Fingers". Fortin on guitar and Penna on drums are readily assisted by studio aces Fabrice Francese on bass and Rob Epstein on keys for several of the CD's 8 tracks. Guitarist Fortin, armed with an arsenal of amps that would leave Sam Ash himself shimmying in the corner, rips thru silk smooth solos reminiscent at times of Greg Howe and Scott Henderson. While Penna keeps things moving along mightily with his rhythmic and pulsating drumming. The interesting combo of funk, fusion and metal give this band a unique edge on the cornerstone of instrumental rock.
