"Paris"

The Story
"Paris" represents the DVD release of the 2001 concert at New Morning in France. In 2001, bassist Jonas Hellborg and guitarist Shawn Lane expanded their touring group to include percussionist Selvaganesh and his two brothers, Umashankar (percussion) and Umamahesh (vocals), who stem from one of the most prominent musical families of southern India. Their father, Vikku Vinayakram, was a member of John McLaughlin's pioneering 70's world music group Shakti. Selvaganesh is currently a member of the new incarnation of Shakti, along with McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain. The first concert on the European tour of 2001 was at the legendary jazz club New Morning in "Paris", France. It was filmed for a documentary on Jonas Hellborg made by Daniel Fahri for the European TV channel ARTE. Presented are nearly two hours of music - both sets of the concert in their entirety. You are sure to enjoy the intricate and passionate interplay between the musicians.

It is of course a great memento documenting the unique talent of the late guitar master Shawn Lane, who perhaps better than any other western musician mastered the vocabulary of Indian music.

Here he is, an American in "Paris".
