Review of "Out Of This World"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
ard to believe this kid is 19 years old! A "Jack of all trades" with production,
recording, mixing and mastering of this album worth 12 tracks of your time. Ryan is
seriously focused with Classical and Neo-Classical styles withmixture of
radio-friendly Progressive Rock. His influences ange from Malmsteen to Vai to
Michael Batio and Francesco Fareri without turning into a Rob Johnson. I say that
because despite RJ is good, he noodles way too much on his albums and with Magnitude
9. I don't rate a player by how many notes he can squeeze in one measure. I rather
hear textures and harmonies with perplexed timings. Ryan shows that on this album
with interesting compositions and terrific fretwork. The best things I like about
this guitarist is his attitude. He's cocky, devoted and confident and still knows
the fact he needs and wants to work harder to work towards his "Vai" goal. Some may
call it an ego but I assure you, he's the Josh Beckett of the guitar world and will
make some waves once people give him the opportunity.
