letter ut of this World, by 19-year-old shredder Ryan Formato, is an all-instrumental first offering of highly refined neo-classical compositions that delve into shred and fusion. This is a high-energy up-tempo CD that is full of insane chops, high intensity, speed and true improvisational moments. Having picked up the guitar at age 14, this talented guitarist pours his soul into his playing and delivers a wide array of masterful instrumentals that far outreach his mere 5 years on the instrument. There are 12 tracks on Out of this World that showcase Formatos developing style. For a first offering, Out of this World is a mature realization of music played with spirit and emotion. Formato seems especially at home with all out neo-classical compositions that incorporate strong melody whilst approaching the unconventional. His timing, emotional delivery and high technical skill combine to make all of the tracks on "Out of this World" true shred heaven. At times Ryan reminds me of a young Jason Backer, one listen to the title track "Out of this World or "Purgatory" will confirm this affirmation. Other highlights of this fine CD include my favorite track "Arpeggio Autopsy" where Ryan lets loose and allows his inner sprit connection with the music to guide his thoughtful phrasing and well articulated diminished runs. Ryan has been driven to learn and incorporate as many styles of music as he can into his guitar arsenal. He has a developing sense of melody and drama, which are both displayed abundantly throughout the 12 tracks on Out of this World. Formato is a strong technician with a clean picking technique that adds power to all his solos. Other influences include Steve Vai, Michael Angelo, YJM and if one listens really closely - Randy Rhodes.

Drawing heavily from his influences, Formato is laying the blueprint that will one day blossom into a full on recognizable style. What he lacks in maturity he makes up for in passion and desire. I hear the making of a shred monster that over time should put this young gun at the top of his game.

This entire CD should send out a wake up call to aspiring shred guitarists worldwide. Ryan Formato has arrived and he's here to shred major butt! A neo-classical lover's shred fest. Formato delves into many styles on "Out of this World" and comes up with a refreshing fist offering of originality.
