oboj is what you'd get if you placed Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Dick Dale, Steve Morse, Ron Thal, and several hits of acid in that teleportation pod from the movie The Fly and flipped the switch. The combined result in the destination pod? A being with lots of guitar talent and some incredibly trippy music!
Fans of great guitar music will definitely want to pick up Orange. On this disc, Joboj (aka Joe Bochar) paints an incredible guitar landscape, from the delicate acoustic plains of 'Sleeping' and 'Garden of Eggs' to the beautiful, rolling hill melodies of 'Chameleon' and 'Orange', to the mountainous rock of 'Hooloovoo', 'Inner', and 'Raw Sausage Finger'. This landscape is dotted with improbably twisted vistas, represented by the Dick Dale surf-sound of 'Chumley', the quirky rock-funk of 'Clutch', 'Pooper', and 'The Twiddle' and the weird & wild opening track, 'Thrown Down a Mountain' which you just have to hear for yourself. And lest I forget, the last track (track 13) is basically the 12 previous tracks played backwards and slightly faster. (No, I didn't hear any satanic messages in it. Bummer.)
In a world of sound-alike instrumental guitarists, Joboj does the near-impossible - he stands out. His style is fresh and fun, and his technique is masterful. Fans of the big-name guitarists like Vai, Satch, Morse, etc. should get Orange into their collections ASAP.
Shred Pick - "Raw Sausage Finger".
