Review of "Orange"
|
By: Michael Knight
oboj is one of the most expressive, super talented guitarists to emerge in the 90's. On his latest effort "Orange", Joboj (otherwise known as Joe Boucher) rises to a level that should put him in the ranks of the few guitarists who can be recognized by their own style. Whether he's playing the hard-chargers ("Thrown Down the Mountain"), ballads ("Garden of Eggs"), or diving into the surf- rockabilly sounds of "Chumley"- he approaches each song with a personal flair. "Psychotic Circus" captures the perfect carnival atmosphere of guitar dementia. The CD covers a lot of ground with various tones. Clean funk chops, muddy SRV blues rock, classical acoustic and smooth creamy jazz chords are offset with laser-beam distorted guitar solos. Hey, this guy could go BIG! And if he does just remember you heard it here first.
