Jazz with a touch of blues, a touch of funk and a touch of smooth fusion. What better way to describe the music on guitarist Doug Markley's latest effort, entitled Not So Blue. Ten instrumentals showcase Markley's compositions and his well-crafted guitar work. Tracks such as the breezy "Contigo" give way to the big city feel of "Machine Head Blues", with its overdriven, delay-drenched solo passages. The sax-y track "The Party" offers a contrast to the funky hipness of "Butterfly Stomp", with its entended sax and electric guitar solo sections. Markley fans will love the pace and variety of the tracks on Not So Blue, another shining example of Markley's talent and vision.
