On Mythology, keyboardist Derek Sherinian brings together the gods of the guitar (Steve Stevens, Zakk Wylde, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Lukather, John Sykes) along with stellar musicans such as Simon Phillips (drums), Jerry Goodman (violin), Tony Franklin (bass), Marco Mendoza (bass), Brian Tichy (drums, guitar) for an all-star, nearly all-instrumental prog fest. The guitar and keyboard licks are fast and furious, such as on the Eddie Van Halen tribute ("Trojan Horse") and the Holdsworh/Goodman dirge ("One Way Or The Other"), or the opening, Wylde and Holdsworth-fueled track ("Day Of The Dead", which may very well be the heaviest musical backdrop that Holdsworth has recorded over). Sherinian describes "A View From The Sky" by saying, "This song could have been an outtake off of 'Blow By Blow' or 'Wired'," while notes for "El Flamingo Suave" read, "Steve Stevens did a live solo with Billy Idol where he plays a flamenco piece on a nylon string guitar. I wanted to incorporate that sound somewhere on my CD." Mythology, Sherinian's fourth solo release, is a barn burner.
