eorge Bellas is the latest instrumentalist from Shrapnel Records and marks a return to the neoclassical sound that Shrapnel championed in the '80s. He is extremely fast and is creative within the genre including many progressive touches. Though his style is very influenced by the early neoclassical albums like those of Tony MacAlpine and Vinnie Moore, he has updated the sound. His only weakness is that at times the high speed soloing can go a little overboard without any breaks in tempo. On the other hand, this sometimes creates an effect of the complex backing rhythm work becoming the focal point and the lead becoming a textural element.
His second release, "Mind Over Matter" is an improvement over his first release, "Turn Of The Millennium". The songwriting is more mature and the band sound is tighter. Like his first CD, it will still appeal only to neoclassical fans or fans of very over-the-top speed soloing.
