Metamorphosis is a 7 track collection of progressive hard rock instrumentals composed and performed by Dan Shimmyo, guitarist for Heavy Reign. Shimmyo, building on influences including Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, Eric Johnson, Alex Lifeson, and Richie Blackmore, displays talented axe playing on songs ranging in style from neo-classical to progressive rock. "Invention #8" and "Invention #13" are pieces composed by Johann Sebastian Bach as two part harmonies to be played on the piano or harpsicord but Shimmyo was so inspired by the two pieces that he decided to record them in duet form on the electric guitar. While Shimmyo's playing on Metamorphosis is mind-blowing, his compositions are also deserving of superlatives. The riffs rarely get repetitive, and the guitar harmonies blend in perfectly. Instrumental music lovers, and afficionados of neo-classical guitar work are bound to enjoy this release.
