Medina is a highly collaborative work, featuring the music and dance between Flamenco guitarist Roger Scannura and Flamenca dancer and choreographer Valeria Scannura. The forms and rhythms spring from Roger's work with Valeria, while guitarist Kevin Laliberte brings elements of modern harmony plus an evocative melodic sense, and percussionist Kevin Smith propels the music with a unique sythesis of percussive styles. The result is a work of music and dance inspired by history, anguish, passion and joy. Roger Scannura in his late teens emigrated to Canada from the history drenched island of Malta. He studied Flamenco in Andalucia with several renowned gypsies, including Pepe Habichuelas and Moises Lopez. Medina is his third CD.
