aco's latest is another brilliant display of his ability to both move flamenco guitar forward and to remain anchored firmly to tradition. Paco's fantastic technique and expansion of flamenco's harmonic vocabulary is well known and he does not disappoint here. The instrumentation is sparser than has been the case on his last few albums, and recalls his "Siroco" album.
A composition such as "Manteca Colora" would have been impossible to imagine in flamenco before Paco, with its jazz influenced harmonies, and Paco is convincing here, as elsewhere. The title track, Paco's tribute to his mother, is a moving piece. The CD concludes with a stirring tribute to Camaron, the legendary flamenco singer with whom Paco collaborated so effectively earlier in his career. Recommended.
