Jeffrey Ryan Smoots 2003 release, Loss For Words, features hard-edged, melodic, progressive instrumental rock that recalls the song-oriented work of Rush, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, and Dream Theater. Unlike previous Smoots releases, this one is all-instrumental, top-to-bottom, with twelve ripping tracks destined for heavy rotation in your CD player. Each song has its own distinct character and is highlighted by a blazing solo or two. From the hard driving metal of "Mr. Negativity" to the laid back southern rock feel of "Cornfed", to the alt-rock influences in "Ambergris", the listener will find an engaging mix of music. Loss for Words is, without a doubt, Smoots' strongest work to date. Gabor Kleinbloesem at Strutter'zine was enthusiastic, "Every guitar-freak should check out this awesome CD!"
Instrumental Guitar (Electric (Heavy)/Hard Rock/Progressive), total running time, 53:37 - J.R.S. @ iTunes!
