Review of "Live From Montreal"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
nteresting info on this mid-30's guitarist, composer ,producer and songwriter from New Jersey, Chaz was born into a Broadway atmosphere with his mother being a Broadway showgirl and a Rockette; listening to choreographs and stuff by Neil Diamond, bagpipes and Irish music. Later on in life he was turned onto AC/DC, Jeff Beck, SRV, Buddy Guy, Billy Squier, Foreigner, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor and more recently, John Coltrane. Chaz has a debut release entitled "Eclectic Impressions" which some of the material is on this live CD. He toured mst of the NY Metro area and hit the 1999 Montreal Jazz Festival where this new release was taken from. A 10-track offering of Blues and Rock with a couple of bonus tracks including a cover of B.B.KIng's "Sweet Little Angel". The sound is very good for a live CD and starts well with "Steamy Delta Improv" that uses some harmonica and captures a serious Jazz and Blues vibe with Chaz going amok with his solos. Just some killer tracks on here like "Elephant Groove" and "Montreal Blues". The CD overall is more of a SRV feel with emotional and blistering solos that remind you of the great blues players from yesteryear; Chuck Berry, SRV, King, Hendrix and Buddy Guy to name just a few. Another recommended track to make a point clear is the other bonus track, "Sunday Afternoon Blues Jam On Toast". I'm already eagerly awaiting the new studio album release.
