ulien Carayon cites himself as a self-taught guitarist, who has been influenced by
the likes of Planet X, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc. He no doubt
tries to create music that goes a bit outside the box, and has a true progressive
side, yet to be honest, this is a nice homemade CD. He does all the programming,
which include programmed drums, keys, etc. I do respect what he has done from a
creative perspective, yet in the end it does sound like an amature at work in his
home studio. He has great ideas, and does not seem to want to be another cookie
cutter shred guitarist, as he creates diverse music that moves around the beat, and
has many atmospheric changes.
It's interesting that a musically ambitious person like Julien Carayon, seems to be
more intuned to creating ambitious musical creations, than being a virtuoso guitar
talent, whereas I hear my share of great guitarists that could use some of Carayon's
creative juices. So that's where these two sides are separated, Carayon could use
more talented musicians to convey his ideas, which are interesting giving his
listing of influences, yet in the end, this CD is really a nice display of a
homestudio amature music fan having a good time.
