midst the slew of impressive guitar works hitting the shelves these days, virtuoso
Adrian Galysh manages to distinguish himself among the fret-bending masses with a
fresh, melodically delightful voice on King Friday. Certainly, the standard Vai/
Satriani vibe holds sway, but Galysh does much more than simply shred his way
through these 11 economical tracks.
An irresistibly infectious sense of groove an swing (spiced by playful touches
whimsy) colors the likes of "Black Coffee" and "Just for Today." On "Glacier Lake
Part 1," and "Of War the Walls Inside," Galysh unleashes some very pretty ,
heartfelt acoustic work. He also offers a creative take on the old classic Sugarloaf
piece, "Green Eyed Lady."
Fleshing out these pieces is flashy keyboard/piano from Mike Keneally, plus a very
capable bottom end from bassist Philip Bynoe and drummer Charlie Waymire. This is
smokin' music, folks - I only wish Galysh saw fit to record more of it.
