Review of "June Again"
|
By: Robert Silverstein
n the spirit of Michael Hedges and Leo Kottke comes Long Island-based acoustic guitarist Mark Yodice. Citing influences like Miles Davis, Brazilian music and the music of the Assad Brothers, Yodice began his guitar training early on as an electric player, although after studying with fingerstyle guru John Stropes, he ditched his electric to concentrate on the acoustic guitar. Like the title and bucolic cover art implies, the solo guitar sounds of "June Again" are filled with dreamy flat-top fingerpicking often evoking a rural pastoral musical setting. Describing the music his solo debut Yodice adds, "The songs are a result of how I interpret life experience and my view on human nature into the language of music." Acoustic guitar enthusiasts into guitar masters like Hedges, Fahey and DiMeola should check out the free-spirited "June Again".
