letter emember the invigorating days of bands like Weather Report, ultra composers such as Chick Korea and guitar maestro's the likes of Al Dimeola. Well my friends those exciting musical times are making a big resurgence and much of the music is coming out of the Liquid Note Records camp. LNR have been putting out some of the most vibrant and cohesive prog, rock, jazz and fusion releases since those exhilarating days of yesteryear.

J.A.M is another example of LNR's consistency and commitment to bringing the world superb musical statements that push boundary's and carry music forward into new territory. J.A.M is sort of a "super group" if you will, a project album made up of master guitarists Joel Rivard, Alessandro Benvenuti and Milan Polak. All three guitarists are of the highest caliber and bring a wealth of diverse influence to the table.

For those who like the unexpected, J.A.M is choke full of odd time signatures and unrestrained soloing. Songs like the opening number "The Usual Unusual" burn through some wicked time changes that will leave you shaking your head in amazement. The CD is ablaze with guitar histrionics' that are nothing short of brilliant. Virtuoso performances can be found on each and every track making J.A.M one of the truly legendary releases of the new millennium.

All tracks on this monster release are absolutely brilliant. Highlights that I feel are worthy of extra mention include:

"Back on Track" - featuring ripping solos from all three guitarists this upbeat rocker is the perfect vehicle to showcase these superb musicians' abilities. A real groove oriented number with a catchy recurring riff and some blazing shred sequences.

"Hot Room" - highlighting Alessandro's unmistakable fluidity and phrasing ala master shredder Allan Holdsworth. The main melody stays within the fusion lines incorporating some unusual jazz voicing's along the way. Some awesome Holdsworthian like sequences are interspersed throughout the track making it a nice eclectic mix of jazz rock and new age fusion.

"Perfect Angel" - a beautiful melody delivered with feeling and conviction. Milan Polak transcends all space and time allowing his inner musical voice to flow making this melodic blues/fusion masterpiece shimmer with heart felt soul.

Liquid Note Records has released another superb offering that continues to breathe new life into the world of music. I have said it before and I am going to say it again here - LNR have released another revolutionary statement in what is fast becoming a catalogue of the best fusion available anywhere. You really owe it to your self to purchase this CD - an absolute must have for serious guitarists and music lovers worldwide.
