letter lex Masi is a renowned guitar player with over 6 solo albums released, and contributions to several other artist's albums, like Brian McDonald's "Wind It Up" album, released this year by AOR label MTM records.

This time around he's coming from a different angle, with 15 renditions of material originally composed by the famous Johann Sebastian Bach. So how interesting is all this? Well, to guitar players like myself, it's very exciting to listen to Masi's virtuosity and his actual grasp of the music.

I grew up in a household where classical music was played all the time, so I recognize most material. The most amazing aspect to me, is how Masi has managed to transform the original violin and piano parts into enjoyable guitar parts.

On some tracks Masi uses distorted and / or overdriven guitars, which in my opinion he shouldn't have. These tracks are still fun to listen to, but it's the ones played "clean" that really blow me away. This guy has such incredible technique and tone!

Of course a lot of credit should go to J.S. Bach for writing the stuff in the first place, but Masi's own twist to the material given here would surely have pleased the writer too. (Although I'm not sure Bach'd appreciate the overdrive!)

Nearly an hour of classical music is offered here, but I think most listeners will not play the album in one stretch. Actually, I think most people will play a single track again and again trying to figure out how the hell Masi has managed to play this on 6 strings. All in all an exciting release. I know I'll play it
