This tune is about the Divine creative energy that we are sometimes able to be a medium for in the rendering
of music, improvisation, and art.

This composition was written on the subject of change, metamorphosis, and re-inventing ourselves. Life is
always changing and we are constantly having to re-adapt to those changes. It
is much like improvising in music; re-acting to other people/forces in our life
and how they accompany us at every turn.

I wrote this track after the humanitarian crisis in Darfur began to come to world wide attention
in early 2005. It is a aural rendering of the plight endured by those suffering
from human rights abuses in parts of the world that are often overlooked.

Early in my career as a musician, I worked in many different capacities. One was as a
member of the showband aboard different cruise ships. This tune was written
about one port a particular ship frequented, Key West. Duval Street is the main
street through downtown Key West and is home to many unique personalities. It
has a funky, almost dirty kind of feeling to it, and this tune tries to capture
some of that essence.

A Hieroglyph is a `picture that describes a word or phrase`. This is another tune composed during
my time on ships. When visiting the countries of Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and
Honduras, I would take any opportunity to visit the Mayan ruins that are
everywhere in Central America. Many had structures with the hieroglyphs and
artwork still visible.

“Port of Ghettos”. This was the name of a town that was near another port that the
ships visited in Santo Thomas De Castilla, Guatemala. Upon visiting this town,
I was struck by the profound poverty and destitute living conditions of the
area and the contrasting, rich, beautiful rain forests that surrounded it on
all sides.

One of the oldest tunes on the recording, this was written soon after
Sept 11, 2001, and was my take on the socio-political atmosphere of the time.

Written by our bassist, Michael Hawkins, this is his rendering of driving
home late at night, as musicians often do. It captures that feeling of
struggling to stay awake and focused just a little longer so as to reach the
final destination.
