Hypnotic Safari
A tune written by Wayne, includes 32 tracks of recording, and several different types and guitars and playing styles. Firstly, Wayne recorded the rhythm track with the Godin Nylon string Multiac, and Hernandez flamenco guitar...with arpeggios, fingerstyle . The synth pad was recorded concurrently with the use of RMC pickups, and Roland GR-1. The doubling was done, and the Martin OM-45 cutaway was added, also fingerstyle Ruben performed the rumba strums, tremelos and rasgueados with his Ramirez and Conde Hermanos flamenco guitars, and Wayne added the Electric Jazz-like leads and muted rhythmic fills with the Heritage Bluesette semi-hollow body equipped with T.W. Doyle low impedance magnetic pickups and a flatpick was used. Ruben then put in some fiery picado lead lines, keyboard synth parts, and Rusty Crutcher added some sax parts as they went along. There are a couple of percussion tracks as well, played by Josef Martinez...bass guitar by Ben Lucero. The tune is a sort of "round"...intended to take the listener on a hypnotic safari! It is a round with a dropped D on the sixth string.

Un Poco De Elfida (A Bit Of Freda)
Version 2. A tune Wayne wrote for his girlfriend, Freda. Much of the same instrumentation was used in this tune, which also used nearly 32 tracks to complete. The Ovation 12 string was also added for chord strums. Many of the guitars Wayne used in this work are equipped with RMC pickups, and an added fanout box which permits six individual string outputs, which are run through a six channel tube preamp to warm the sound, and then into a six channel stereo submixer before going to the mixing desk and digital hard disk or ADAT recorders. This allows Wayne to create a "curtain" effect with each string being placed in a different position in the stereo spectrum...for more string definition and a dramatic effect. Most of Wayne`s instruments were recorded with stereo direct outputs from the preamp. Ruben had his guitars live mic`d in stereo with Neumann mikes. Ruben`s beautiful flamenco guitar solo adds a wonderful texture to the overall mix. The Session electric guitar tube amp used by Wayne was also close mic`d with Neumann`s. Josef Martinez added latin percussion and bass guitar by Ben Lucero. Rusty Crutcher is featured on a magnificent and sensual sax solo!

Entre Dos Montanas
A tune written by Wayne...a tribute to Flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucia, who wrote a tune called "Entre Dos Aguas" (Between Two Seas) a few years back. Using an alternate tuning in the backgound rhythm (1st string is dropped to a D), this work includes much of the same instrumentation, but without the guitar synthesizer. Wayne chose to double his steel string flat-top arpeggios with both the Martin OM-45 custom cutaway equipped with the RMCs, and with a Laskin "Ertenouveau" model guitar, close mic`d. Ruben uses his Ramirez and Conde Hermanos for lead and rhythm work. Josef Martinez added latin percussion and bass guitar was played by Ben Lucero.

Autumn Wind
Written by Ruben, this newly recorded version shows how two different guitarists with different styles can blend their talents and create a whole new feeling. Wayne and Ruben begin by playing the arpeggios in unison, and then each branches out to take a different kind of solo; Wayne plays in a jazz style, and Ruben in the Flamenco style. Wayne adds a Travis/Bresh style thumb-picking technique to the chorus, to support Ruben`s beautiful melody. Nylon string guitars are featured in this tune.

La Gloria
From the Gloria Suite was written by Ruben Romero. Here again, the team of Johnson and Romero blend their harmonic and melodic styles and techniques in a manner that presents this formerly recorded Romero piece with a different feel...Nuevo Jazzamenco at its best. Nylon string guitars are the instrument of choice in this particular performance.

Short Stories
A tune written by Wayne as a tribute to the late Marcel Dadi, who was an inspiration and a friend to him. It is written and performed in fingerstyle, with a dropped D on the 1st and 6th strings. It was recorded on only four tracks with the Martin OM-45 with John Pearse bronze wound strings, RMC pickups/fanout box, with stereo string separation. The same guitar was used concurrently to record synth pads underneath the melody and chords. It is intended to feature Wayne`s solo fingerstyle technique.

Turquoise Jungle
(a.k.a. Santa Fe Plaza) Written by Ruben. 26 tracks were utilized to record this tune, which is loaded with doubling of guitar leads by the duo. Wayne adds the Flaquinto, which is a double-neck flamenco/requinto instrument, which he designed. It was used throughout this piece for high harmonies, and a solo part . Ruben brilliantly executes the aggressive and fiery picado solo. Many of the same guitars used in the first few pieces of this project were used on this tune as well. This tune has an upbeat Spanish Caribbean feel to it.

Caricias Para La Princesa
(Caresses For Princess Diana) Written by Ruben. This piece was recorded on 16 tracks and intended to feature Ruben. Using his Ramirez flamenco guitar, he plays the fingerstyle and tremelo melody and chord in this tune. Waynes used his Godin Multiac to play the "String Vox" and string pad behind Ruben, with the Roland GR-1 synthesizer. Additionally, both Wayne and Ruben added rumba flamenca and rasgueado strums in the up-tempo segment, using the Hernandez and Conde Hermanos flamenco guitars.

Zamora
Written by Wayne. This tune is jazz-like in nature...a hot one when played live...the listeners really enjoy it. What we call "Jazzamenco". Both Ruben and Wayne harmonized the melody. Wayne, with the Heritage "Bluesette" guitar and the Fla-quinto, and Ruben on the Conde Hermanos. Both Ruben and Wayne play rumba strums on this tune...Rusty Crutcher performs the sax solo, followed by Wayne, on the "Bluesette"...Ruben plays the picado solo on the Conde Hermanos. Wayne harmonizes some of Rusty`s sax parts with a "Trumpets" patch on the Roland JV1080 rack-mounted synthesizer drives with RMC pickups and Roland GR-1. Latin percussion was added by Josef Martinez, and bass by Ben Lucero. About 28 tracks were used on this piece.

Cathedral Bells
Ruben wrote this tune for his mother, a real pretty tune! Features Ruben on his Conde Hermanos flamenco guitar, and Wayne with counterpoint melody and harmonies using the Godin nylon string multiac with Roland GR-1 guitar synthesizer string pad. This was recorded on 6 tracks.

Hypnotic Safari (Extended Play)
At 18 plus minutes long, this is a real trip featuring lick trade offs between Ruben and Wayne and creamy smooth electric jazz-like and flamenco guitar solos. It was performed for 1000 guests and had the crowds at a party in Espanola, NM dancing everything from Western line dances to Egyptian and Indian style dance steps...appreciated by all ages. Much of Wayne`s jazz style is featured here!
