more information

The purpose of the Guitar Nine Records' Home Studio Registry is to allow owners and users of home/project studios to communicate with other musicians who are doing similar projects and work.

Far from being the solitary musician locked in a spare room with a bunch of expensive toys, you will finally be able to hook up with others who have many of the same dreams and aspirations as you do.

Ben McCombs's Studio Details

Crude but highly effective.

Web site: www.lunarpages.com/outside/

Main purpose: Recording
Secondary purpose: Practice/Rehearsal

Recording knowledge level: Above average
MIDI knowledge level: None

Typically work (with): Other musicians
Completed songs/demos/jingles: 61-100

Future plans: An EP of some sort. Something jangly and perhaps 80`s-ish. My Bloody Valentine meets The Smiths meets Modest Mouse/Built To Spill. Something short and fun before I shut it down for two years.

Guitars: Fender Telecaster with custum paint job; Squier II Strat; Squier II Strat with blue/silver/red Lace Sensor pickups and custom paint job; cheap Fender acoustic.
Keyboards: Yamaha DJX. Roland something or other. In conjunction with many effects and tricks. My keyboardist is about to purchase a $3000 dollar keyboard which is apparently akin to the one used by Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead.
Sound modules: I`m sure we have one.
Percussion: Mr. Yamaha, Irish drum, misc ethnic percussion

Effects: Danelectro Daddy-O, Cool Cat and Tuna Melt; Electro-Harmonix Big Muff (SustainPunched) and Dlx Electric Mistress; Boss PS-3; Korg 301dl Echo, Korg 411fx Multi for vocals, misc stuff I don`t use
Microphones: Cheap but effective
Mixer: Nada
Tape decks: Nada
Hard disc recorders: Fostex FD-8
Monitoring system: Some kind of stereo tape deck with nice speakers, cheap headphones

Computers: We have one. Lots of memory. Yadda yadda.
Music software: Cool Edit Pro -- used to sweeten and enhance tracks recorded on the FD-8. Basically I use the FD-8 because it`s portable and convenient. The NR and tweaking is done on computer, as is the burning of CDs.
Other equipment: Harmonicas

Comments: Crude but highly effective. Has produced some very good recordings of some very diverse and unusual music.
