ike the title says, this all instrumental CD features a lot of hot guitarists you have never heard of. Steeped in the Eighties shred movement with an odd acoustic track here and there, this shredder's smorgasbord is surprisingly good. The most unusual track of the lot is Kristian Niemann's and Robert Frannson's futuristic "Industrial Type Thang," an impossibly fast, ridiculously precise, drum machine driven
piece that sounds like Yngwie making love to Ms. Pac Man. More traditional is Scott Van Zen's Van-Halen-on-steroids "The Fast Lane," on
which Mr. Van Zen lets loose with a stunning fusillade of fast, tasty, metal-injected blues licks and some mighty impressive tapping too.
Another cool item is Richard James' Pantera-meets-Yngwie "Moon Dust," a gothic-metal thing with a deep-groove type riff and lots of majestic
neo-classical guitar licks. On a whole other tip is Graeme Marshall's "Something Slippery," a funky metal piece a la Satriani on which
Marshall defly veers between speedy forays and slinky blues licks. All in all, a highly enjoyable collection from a talented bunch of pickers
who are not just wanking off.
