Review of "Slow"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
ard to believe this guy 10 years or so ago lived only an hour south of me in Reading,PA and has done so many things with solo releases, opened up for some big names at the tender age of 17 traveling to and fro LA and a short stint with Poison on "Native Tongue" as well as replacing Paul Gilbert in Mr.Big for the '99 release of "Get Over It" and now in LA doing solo material again but showing his vocal talent nowadays.
"Slow" is a decent Rock album that I can perfectly review as Kravitz meets Hagar/Chris Cornell vocals but the one thing that would kill it as a regular everyday radio play is there's too much going on and kids of today just wouldn't get it compared to more serious listeners that don't need the 2-3 chord simple riffs, no solos and "Scott Sapp wannabes" vocals. The leadwork is brilliant and would straighten the jeri-curl right out of Lenny's hair in comparison. No disrespect to Kravitz as he's a great musician, writer and guitar player but not in the realms of Kotzen even if he does sell more records; unfortunately who you know in the business helps in getting bigger signings as far as labels go. A 14-track romp with a bonus track that should do quite well if it hits the right outlets. Kotzen's playing is phenomenal and his multi-talents shine on this release.
