Vainglory is a band that features intense riffs, masterful guitar, virtuoso drumming, heavy bass, powerful vocals and thought provoking lyrics. Based around Corbin King, who should be the metal guitar hero for the new millennium, this band has all the ingredients in place to be a major force for years to come. Along with guitarist/songwriter Corbin King, the band includes vocal sensation Kate French, of Chastain fame. Kate's ability to mix power, range, conviction, emotion, and true heavy metal singing is very uncommon in today's "metal" vocalists. Kate is a veteran to heavy metal and has not only pushed beyond the normal bounds of female vocalists, but has delivered her best recorded performance to date on this CD. An addition of a second guitarist took place in early 2005 when Corbin brought aboard guitarist John Michael Youngblood. John is a former long time student of Corbin's and through years of practice, dedication, and friendship, landed himself a spot in Vainglory. li`s contribution to the metal world is undeniable. He is probably the most revered
guitarist among musicians, yet probably the least known guitar player in a select
few that has truly inspired many. Lars Eric Mattsson has taken it upon himself to
bring us this wonderful tribute which includes a collection of 14 songs taken from
some of the brilliant, yet unheralded, work he did with the Scorpions and his own
work he did as Electric Sun, after leaving the Scorpions. Anyone that`s heard Taken
By Force, Fly To The Rainbow, In Trance or Virgin Killer can appreciate his raw
talent he possessed at that point in time. Those releases were all incredible and
though the production lacked for the time, the music and musicianship stood on their
own. After leaving the Scorpions and forming Electric Sun Uli consistently received
critical acclaim though very little mainstream press or attention. I`m sure very
little of that has mattered to Uli who has made music his way. This collection of
tracks features some of prog and melodic metals biggest names including Lance King
(Empire, Balance of Power), Neal Grusky (Takara), Alex Masi, Paul Nelson (Liege
Lord), Rolf Munkes (Empire), Ian Haugland (europe), Weine Hohansson (Baltimoore) and
many others and is as fine a tribute as I`ve heard. Every song from Electric Sun,
Sails of Charon, Dark Lady, Yellow Raven, Still So Many Lives Away, Pictured Life,
Polar Nights et al are perfectly recreated. Like Uli. A a treasure chest of songs,
all of which are deserving to be on this disc. Rating: 10/10
