More Info
Bed And Breakfast features NIL guitarist Mike Lopez stepping out on his own under the Reconcile moniker with a fine collection of twelve rock and pop songs. Lopez loves to shred in spots on the record (evidenced by the instrumental track, "Nag And Nagaina"), but his songwriting ability is the CD's true strength. Guest appearances by Keith Rosenhagen, Ty Whisenhunt, Dave Beegle, Mike Olson, Dave Spurr and Beth Quist make Bed And Breakfast an exceptional piece of work. Rock, total running time, 50:32

'P.T. Power Trio'

By: Andy Craven
n Power Trio, Pat Travers, one of the staples of the American blues/rock scene,
digs deep into the archives and delivers amped up covers of tracks by artists such
as ZZ Top, Grand Funk Railroad, Cream, Robin Trower, Stray Dog, Point Blank, Free
and Mountain.
Utilising nothing more than a Gibson Les Paul Standard through a Marshall JCM900 amp
and a few pedals (wah, phaser), Travers unleashes his blues-based crunch over these
ten blues soaked tracks. This is all pretty upbeat stuff with Travers playing being
rather tasty and fiery through the pentatonic handbook throughout. The rhythm
section is tighter than a vice with Gunter Nezhoda bass work being a particular joy.
Travers vocals are also strong throughout and have a nice barrel load of grit to
them.
The production on Power Trio is very live and "in yer face" suiting the rootsy
material to a tee. All the tracks see Travers sticking very closely to the original
arrangements and indeed solos. Day Of The Eagle sees a great work out with its
gloriously funky riff that just oozes class. Fire & Water sees Travers giving Paul
Kossoff`s classic solo a little more zing. The ZZ Top cover of Nasty Dogs & Funky
Kings has the a great groove and also sees Travers nail Billy Gibbons` attitude full
chops in the solo. Hwy. 61 Revisited sees some sick slide guitar work that is sure
to have Johnny Winter smiling if he hears this...it does his original reworking of
the Bob Dylan track justice. There is a sense of fun throughout the ten tracks on
offer.
Overall Power Trio isn`t going to win any prizes for individuality, but for the joy
of hearing a trio just go for it, it`s a very good adventure.
Hot Spots: Day Of The Eagle, Nasty Dogs & Funky Kings, Fire & Water.
