Vintage Guitar Magazine's Eric C. Shoaf writes about Play Some Rock & Roll, "An inspiring mix of old and new, the Mambo Sons' second CD begins with an open G hammered-on Stones feel and plumbs familair tones from the past. The vocals are mixed down and the guitars are way out front, the tones of Strats and Teles powered by Marshall amps. While several of the cuts recall mid-'70s Stones, particularly with their open G tuning, there are also snatches of REM, '60s garage, and even Allman Brothers as the Mambo Sons let their influences show. Guitarist Tom Guerra definitely has the chops and the overall production is snappy and professional. The overall effect is at once familiar and comfortable, yet still new." Rock, total running time, 43:05 - Mambo Sons @ iTunes!
