Don't be frightened, little ones. Here's a new Buckethead disc, Monsters & Robots, which finds the enigmatic guitarist doing battle with villains such as Tekkadon D and Double Man. The album features plenty of Buckethead's mind-melding guitar heroics, as well as contributions from friends such as P-Funk legend Bootsy Collins, Les Claypool and San Fran sci-fi drummer Brain of Primus, legendary producer Bill Laswell, Pete Scaturro of Limbomaniacs fame, Extrakd, and turntablists phonosycographDISK, and DJ Eddie Def. Buck even does battle with the vicious Shape, presenting a strange homage to Mike Meyers. In the wake of the quieter sounds of last year's "Colma" Monsters & Robots represents a return to Buckethead's signature style of fast-paced mutational guitar shredding and sci-fi narratives, Mesa Dual Rectifier cranked to the hilt, bucket perched atop the head, face shrouded by the ever-present Japanese Noh mask. It's a welcome return to form that Bucketbots everywhere have been waiting for.
