Review of "In Dementia"
|
By: John Nicholas
eviathan's press release describes In Dementia as "heavily demented progressive metal" and I could not agree more. "Human Sacrifice" begins the CD with a hard edge that won't let up throughout the CD. The guitar solo is great. "Blackening" is not quite as heavy. It has a simple but very catchy melody. "Seven" has a rich, complex feel, with the coolest guitar line. "Sick Puppy" has a very different sound that is difficult to describe. Kates voice at the beginning of "Tongues" is really good and I wish she sung like that on more of the CD. "Tongues" has another excellent guitar line with a kind of primal feel. The title track follows and is a progressive metal showcase. "House of Stone" is one of my favorite tracks. "Conformity" continues heavy with more incredible playing. "Desperately" is a beautiful power ballad. Once again, Kate's clean vocals sound excellent. The writing, playing, and production can not be faulted on In Dementia, my only complaint would be that I prefer a cleaner vocal style than what Kate French uses on most of the CD.
