On Dream Theater's 1992 major label debut album, Images And Words, the group (led by guitarist John Petrucci and drummer Mike Portnoy) offered eleven tracks of unique, intensely rich, progressive hard rock. Crunching guitars trade solos with elaborate keyboards (Kevin Moore) and Portnoy's intricate drum patterns and multiple tempo/time signature changes set a pattern for albums to come. Petrucci shines brightest on challenging tracks such as "Surrounded" and "Metropolis-Part I" Images And Words also features outstanding contributions from keyboardist Moore and bassist John Myung on cuts such as "Learning To Live" and "Surrounded". Progressive/Rock, total running time, 75:00 - Dream Theater @ iTunes!
