Review of "Heavy Humidity"
|
By: Chris Long
efore relocating to the Sarasota
area a while back, Chris Hattingh was
what I would call a real "mover and
shaker" on Brevard's original music
scene. He owned and operated TGIF
Studios in Cocoa, and for years he
was personally responsible for turning
me on to many of the CDs that I
reviewed in this column. One of the
best was his own instrumental guitar
"shredder" record back in 2002. Until
lately, however, I hadn't heard too much
from Chris, but he's back now (so to
speak) with a brand new record.
"Heavy Humidity" captures the
essence of life in Florida. From reggae
inspired tunes like "Livin' It Up" to the
more laid back beach vibe of "Siesta
Key" and "Lying by My Side" Chris has
created a record that really represents
life in the Sunshine State. My personal
favorite from this CD is actually the
instrumental surf tune "Surf's Up". Even
the font used on the CD cover kind of
resembles that of The Beach Boys.
The musicians he chose to work
with on the record all deliver fabulous
performances and overall the record
sounds better than anything that I've
heard him produce yet. Atta boy, Chris!
