Review of "Exotic Dancer Blues"

By: Michael Knight
ust what you'd expect from the title is what you get here. Seventies style blues tinged rock and boogie with 90s production values will get you rockin' and rollin'! Most of the songs are on that style of ZZ Top, Foghat, Brownsville Station hard rock with a few of the songs cutting to smokey hot, traditional bar-room blues (Down to New Orleans, Time Traveler, Madness in the Dark). Chastain has that great classic guitar tone for this CD, and rips out a dozen or so pentatonic solos- separating this release squarely from his usual style. The first time I listened to the CD I didn't even realize that Mr. Chastain was also handling the vocal duties. They were strong and completely competent, leading me to believe there was a career vocalist in the band. This is a way-cool album, from the first song with it's Hendrix-ian 7/9 chords- to the last with it's heavy footed wah chops.
