Review of "Eternity"
|
By: Wayne Klinger
ike Varney made the discovery of this guitarist back in 1985 and eventually led to a 4-track EP, "Can't Go On Without Your Love" and soon afterward was signing for three releases with French label, Black Dragon Records. '88 was the release of "Eternity",'89-"No Surrender" and an all-instrumental release in '91 called "Electric Voodoo" which was also taken up by Leviathan Records in the U.S. (David T. Chastain's label) and renamed as "The Exciter" in 1992. Other bands came and folded shortly after like Vision, who made two releases and split in '94 and Astral Groove with Baltimore's Bjorn Lodin with one release. Vision then resurfaced as well as a band by the name of Condition Red; eventually landed Lars to just do solowork.
The music is a AOR/prog-rock Purple/Malmsteen with very good leadwork with mostly vocalled songs but Lars does a few instrumentals on here that are worth hearing. Neo-classical stuff with keyboard-drenched songs kind of put a damper on my excitement since Yngwie and various others done this already and nowadays there's even more that are doing it like Narnia, Impelliterri, Nation and even Joe Stump can't seem to shake that Yngwie shadow. Take it for what it's worth and your musical tastes.
