welve new tracks from one of the true champions of neo-classical guitar! One of the best releases of 2001, Masi - "Eternal Struggle" is rife with controlled over the top guitar playing. . Always the leader, remember "Attack of the Neon Shark", In The Name of Back" or my favorite "Vertical Invader"; Masi has come forth with yet another ground breaking slab of music.
What makes this CD stand out from the crowd is the very catchy compositions that are heard throughout. Masi has finally found the perfect balance, melding melodic and neo-classical compositions to come up with some very hook laden rockers.
This release once again, as in past Masi releases, highlights his considerable guitar playing skills. Many have compared Alex to another notable guitar slinger, YJM, but if you really listen to his playing on "Eternal Struggle" you will hear a stylist with his own unique voice. Some very well thought out classically influenced solos compliment every track on the CD - with a few twists and turns just to keep it interesting!! Alex is the master at combining neo-classical influences with catchy melodies that sound fresh and new. His guitar tone is earthy, warm and full of depth. Kyle Michaels once again provides the voice of Masi, handling all vocals. His raspy voice is the perfect ingredient to make the CD a memorable experience.
"Lost In The City", "Caught In The Middle" and "On And On' - are the three songs which kind of sum up this release with their cool anthem like structures. These three tracks showcase everything that is great about "Eternal Struggle" - controlled song structure, melodic vibes, powerful vocals, intelligent themes and the ever present, signature guitar playing of Alex Masi.
