Review of "Guitar Garbage 1.2"
|
By: Jason Goh
uitar Garbage? Well, there's nothing stinky about this release, that's for sure! Guitar Garbage (GG) 1.2 showcases some very groovy instrumental music that features heavy rhythms and nice solos. Though I must admit that on the first few listens, if felt like he was just pissing around on the guitars. Fortunately, the good stuff gradually oozes through the murky bits and all fall into place after several listens. It's amazing how familiarity can change one's perception of music.
GG 1.2 is really a mixture of several influences (like jazz, fusion, heavy metal, etc) so it's hard to ascertain which category if belongs to. Not that it's important of course but if would be nice to push this album towards the right direction. Instrument fans of Steve Vai and Joe Satriani will probably take a liking to this album. Advocates of the old-school Vinnie Moore, Jason Becker and Joey Tafolla variety may find it a little hard to swallow Jill's jazzy overtones. Regardless of the which guitar fan you are, I'd still recommend that you give this album a spin. There are enough heavy bits to keep one interested and Jill's technical competence isn't that bad either. Good stuff.
