Review of "Guitarchitecture"
|
By: Dave Cockett
ast up of Rob Johnson's trio of solo releases, but by no means least is the at times quite explosive "Guitarchitecture", which really should appeal to those into the slightly wacky, off beat world of Vai and Satriani. From the opening effervescence of title track "Guitarchitecture" which seems to encompass a veritable multitude of styles all under the one roof, through the likes of "Dance Of The Monster Gods" which has a real "Passion And Warfare" vibe, or the more meditative "Transcendental", to the intense, yet strangely hypnotic "Metaphysical", Johnson's guitar soars like an eagle. Two bonus tracks this time around, both of which are again excellent examples of the guys incredible six string talents.
Whilst none of Rob Johnson's three solo albums is probably going to hold out that much appeal beyond the niche instrumental markets, for those with a penchant for classy plank spanking I can actually recommend all three releases. In fact, although "Guitarchitecture" probably edges it over the other two, the differences in quality between all three really are minimal.
