Greg Howe has great modern sound that seems to borrow equally from rock and jazz. An excellent lead player, Howe creates great bluesy riffs that suddenly cascade into cool jazz scale runs. The production on all his albums is very good and every instrument comes through clearly. His more recent releases show more jazz influences especially of the Chick Corea/Return to Forever fusion style. He always has great phrasing and an effortless use of both speed picking and smooth legato licks.
Greg's first self-titled release is the most rock oriented with a rock boogie sound that should be very appealing to fans of upbeat rock guitar. The song "Pepper Shake" was featured in Guitar Magazine and remains part of Greg's shows even today. Billy Sheehan's excellent bass playing really fleshes out the songs.
